New Jersey Department of Health Adopting CDC Guidance on COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Period for Healthcare Providers and Public

Based on new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) is updating its guidance on isolation and quarantine period for both the public and healthcare providers.

“Based on the latest science and data—that demonstrates transmission occurs early on in the course of illness—new isolation and quarantine recommendations have been developed to address the spread of COVID-19,” said Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli. “This data underscores the importance of vaccination, especially receiving a booster dose.   The Department encourages vaccination against COVID-19 for everyone 5 and older and boosters for everyone 16 and older to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our state.”

NJDOH is in the process of updating guidance documents for the general public to reflect CDC’s guidance, which shortens the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for individuals with COVID-19 to 5 days, if they do not have symptoms, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others. 

NJDOH is adopting changes to the recommended quarantine period for members of the general public who have been exposed to COVID-19. Per CDC, individuals who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine and not yet boosted, should quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days. Individuals who have received their booster vaccine do not need to quarantine following an exposure, however they should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure. 

NJDOH is also updating its guidance to reflect CDC recommendations on isolation and quarantine for healthcare workers to decrease isolation time after COVID-19 illness.  Healthcare workers with COVID-19 who are without symptoms can return to work after 7 days with a negative test, and isolation time can be reduced further if there are staffing shortages. Healthcare workers who have received all recommended COVID-19 vaccine doses, including a booster, do not need to quarantine at home following high-risk exposures.

The Department expects to release its guidance documents in the coming days, in the meantime residents and healthcare providers should refer to CDC guidance.

“Residents should also continue to take precautions such as wearing a mask when in public indoor spaces, washing hands frequently and staying home when sick,” added Persichilli.

Quadrant 1 (Northeast) Bulk Pickup Wednesday 1/5/2022

There is bulk garbage pick-up in Quadrant 1 (Northeast) this Wednesday, January 5th, 2022.

 

Bulk garbage pick-up in on schedule for all quadrants as listed on the 2022 garbage & recycling pick-up calendars. Please reference your 2022 pick-up schedule calendar for the bulk (B) pick-up day in your quadrant. 2022 garbage & recycling pick-up schedule calendars may be found by clicking HERE.

As a reminder, please note:

-Bulk pickup is for residential purposes ONLY.

-The DPW does NOT pick up contractor debris, concrete, bricks, asphalt, rocks, mortar, stone, cultured stone, or any stone-like material, wet paint, chemicals, tires, fluorescent lightbulbs, vehicles batteries, rechargeable batteries, propane/fuel tanks, fire extinguishers, TV's, computer monitors, computer towers/ computer CPUs, laptops, tablets, printers, or fax machines.

- The limit per bulk day is 4 pieces of household furniture, 2 household appliances (ex. air conditioning (AC) unit, oven, washer, dryer, refrigerator- DOORS MUST BE OFF), and 1 carpet or rug that does not exceed 12 feet in length and/or 1 foot in diameter (including the pad) or a mixture of fragments from a carpet or rug of said size. The DPW will not collect carpets removed professionally. 

-Water heaters must have a Borough-issued inspection sticker on them, or they will not be picked up. Please call the Building Department to schedule an inspection: 201-387-4055, option 4. 

-Bulk may not be placed at the curb any earlier than 6:00pm the night before scheduled bulk pick-up. Bulk must be ready no later than 6:00am on the scheduled day of the bulk pick-up. 

-There is bulk pick-up on scheduled bulk pick-up days only. There is no special pick-ups. Please reference your 2022 pickup schedule calendar for the bulk (B) pickup day in your quadrant by clicking HERE.

-Please take the following items to a BCUA collection event: wet paint, chemicals, tires, fluorescent lightbulbs, vehicle batteries, rechargeable batteries, propane/fuel tanks, fire extinguishers, electronics. For 2022 BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events & BCUA 2022 Tire Recycling/Electronics Recycling/Mobile Paper Shredding/Unwanted Medication Collection Events locations, dates, times & list of accepted items, please click HERE.

 

-The DPW does NOT collect brick, mortar, stone, concrete, cultured stone, or any stone-like material; the homeowner must dispose of these privately. All bulk refuse generated by a private contractor (contractor debris), or trade waste generated by any business, shall be removed at their own expense and risk. 

-The following electronics ONLY are accepted at the Bergenfield Recycling Center: TV's, computer monitors, computer towers/computer CPUs, laptops, tablets, printers, fax machines. The Bergenfield Recycling Center is located at 198 N. Washington Ave, behind the DPW building (the DPW building is the building behind Borough Hall). The Bergenfield Recycling Center hours are Mon-Fri. 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat. 9:00am-1:00pm, Sun. 1:00pm-4:00pm (closed on holidays).

-PAINT must be dried solid & put out at curb on bulk (B) pickup day ONLY with the lid off. Wet paint must be taken by the resident to a BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. -Vegetative waste (grass, leaves, shrubs, branches, yard waste) is NOT collected on bulk day. Please reference your 2022 pickup schedule calendar for the recycling (R) pick up day in your quadrant.

Bergenfield to Distribute Turkeys to Families in Need Saturday From 10am-2pm

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- The Borough will distribute 100 turkeys to families in need this Saturday between 10am-2pm at the Bergenfield Food Pantry located at 198 N. Washington Ave. The turkeys were graciously donated by the Inserra Shop Rite in collaboration with the Bergen County Food Task Force.

Turkeys will be given away on a first come first serve basis to those in need. On behalf of the Mayor & Council, wishing everyone a safe and healthy Holiday season. 

Bergenfield Delivers Food to the Senior Center

Today, Mayor Amatorio was joined by Congressman Josh Gottheimer and his son Ben, as well as Councilmen Thomas Lodato, Marc Pascual and Buddy Deauna.

Bergenfield Holds Ribbon Cutting for Next Generation Pediatric Urgent Care Center

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- Mayor Amatorio and members of the Borough Council held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Next Generation Pediatric Urgent Care Center. This is a state-of-the-art facility located at 481 S Washington Ave. in the Foster Village Shopping Center. 

 

“I am thrilled that Next Generation Pediatric Urgent Care Center has chosen Bergenfield to put their new business,” said Mayor Amatorio. “Dr. Laddis and his team will undoubtedly do great work in our Borough and help countless children. I wish them nothing but the best with their journey.”

 

Dr. Dmitri Laddis opens this center with over a decade of experience in the field of pediatrics and has worked in a multitude of pediatric settings over his career. Dr. Laddis and his pediatric partners plan to make the center child-focused, family-friendly, luxuriously spacious with a contemporary aesthetic and a great place to work for its staff.
