Services and Collections:
The Bergenfield Library, in its newly renovated facility, is a full service library with a collection of over 140,000 books; 3300 books on tape and CD, as well as downloadable audiobooks; 2200 music CD’s; 5300 videos and DVD’s; and 200 print subscriptions to newspapers and magazines. Special collections include large print books, Spanish language books and films, Filipino videos and DVD’s, Hindi DVD’s and English as a Second Language (ESL) materials.

With the addition of a children’s activity room and a young adult room, programming for children and teens can be scheduled throughout the week and throughout the year. Children’s programs include story times for infants and pre-schoolers, films, book discussions, crafts, Summer Reading Club and special celebrations and events (e.g. Harry Potter Day). Teen programs include movies, crafts, games, anime, book discussions and Summer Reading Club.

Every Tuesday morning the Friends of the Bergenfield Library sponsor a weekly series of lectures, book discussions, films, slide presentations, and demonstrations on topics of interest for adults. The Library sponsors two book discussion groups, one daytime group and one evening group, both of which are open to the public.

Work by local artists or collections are displayed in the lower level gallery area. Meeting room space may also be reserved by community groups for meetings or special events.

With the assistance of the Friends of the Library, the library offers delivery of books, films and magazines to any Bergenfield resident who is temporarily or permanently confined to home.

As part of its renovation the library also added dedicated space for English as a Second Language. The library offers training for volunteer English as a Second Language tutors who meet with students in one-on-one instruction and conversation groups.

The Reference Department offers assistance with whatever information residents need—whether on consumer of health topics, career and resume writing information, local history, school assignments, locating legal statutes or help with selecting the right book. Adult quiet study rooms are available in the Reference area. Internet access, including wireless, is available throughout the library.

The Bergenfield Library is a founding member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). A card in good standing at Bergenfield Library entitles the cardholder to borrow materials from any of the 73 member libraries of BCCLS. Bergenfield Library is also a participating member of Open Borrowing, providing access to materials in Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Warren counties and other parts of central and northern New Jersey; and a participating member of JerseyCat, offered by the state, providing access to materials in libraries in New Jersey and beyond.

Through BCCLS, residents have access to 31 online licensed databases and the World Language catalog. The online catalog is accessible from home or work. Materials may be requested and renewed online. Request items are delivered free of charge to the Bergenfield Library and borrowed items may be returned at any BCCLS member library.
